The Board of County Commissioners for Torrance County, NM, is seeking an energetic, highly skilled public sector manager with team leadership qualities to serve as the next County Manager. Torrance County is situated in central New Mexico and is experiencing strong, economic growth primarily due to the installation of extensive wind farms. The county has a stable population of approximately 17,000. The County is governed by a three (3) person elected Board of Commissioners who act as the policy making body for the County, the Board members are elected by the district. The Commissioners appoint the County Manager, who serves as the Chief Administrative Officer. The County Manager implements the policies of the Commission by providing effective management to the appointed Department Heads and coordination with the five (5) elected Department Officials (Clerk, Assessor, Treasurer, Sheriff and Probate Judge). The County’s current budget is about $13 million with staffing at 95 authorized full-time employees and 35 part time employees. The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Public or Business Administration and a minimum of three (3) years of executive management experience or a minimum of eight (8) years of Executive Management experience in financial management, budgeting and team building. Professional certification and trainings related to public sector management are preferred.

Torrance County is accepting applications for full-time Sheriff’s Deputies; Salary $31,200-35,360 DOE. Certified preferred. Minimum requirements are as follows: Must be 21 years or older, have a valid NM Driver’s License, high School Diploma or GED, no felony, domestic violence or DWI convictions.  Must be able to pass background check, physical agility test, and psychological exam.  Must be able to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Torrance County is accepting applications for part-time Float Clerk,  $9.00 per hour. Must be 18 years or older with a valid NM Driver’s License.  High School Diploma or GED required. The Float Clerk acts as a substitute office clerk when coverage is needed in any of the County Administrative Offices. Employee may be required to work 40 hours per week, or may work as little as 0 hours per week, as scheduling allows. Employee is not guaranteed to work consecutive days or hours.
