Mission Statement

The Torrance County Attorney's Office serves as legal counsel to the Board of County Commissioners of Torrance County, the County Manager, elected officials, and certain boards and commissions.

What We Do

  • Represent the Board of County Commissioners, the County Manager, elected officials, and certain boards and commissions in federal and state courts.
  • Review and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other documents.
  • Reviews proposed ordinances, resolutions, polices and procedures.
  • Assist Torrance County staff and officials with understanding and complying with state and federal laws which apply to the County, including the Open Meetings Act, Inspection of Public Records Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, Americans with Disabilities Act and Family and Medical Leave Act.
  • Make staff available to advise county commissioners and county administration.
  • Educate and train county departments to prevent legal problems.
  • Initiate and defend lawsuits in state and federal trial and appellate courts.
  • Oversee and manage all outside litigation provided through the New Mexico Association of Counties.​
