Torrance County has received $219,971.73 in Title III Funding for County Projects from the Forest Service. The Funding may be used for the following when services performed on a national forest or BLM lands: salary or wages of emergency response personnel deployed; replacement or repair of equipment destroyed, damaged, or expended during an emergency response; maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and facilities during an emergency response; purchase of capital equipment; expenses of training personnel to respond to emergencies; expenses of equipment and supplies to be kept on hand for response to emergencies; expenses of non-disposable personal protective equipment and electronic aids in anticipation of responding to emergencies; purchase of equipment for 911 emergency systems; implementing or carrying out a community wildfire protection plan; or education in a Firewise Community.

The County seeks to utilize this funding to assist in the purchase of new radios for first responders. The purchase of new radios will allow the County to have improved interoperability throughout the County, with mutual aid partners and improve responder safety through the communication with the Dispatch Center.

There is a required 45-day public comment period, in which the public may voice any questions, concerns, or suggestions related to the expenditure of the Title III Funds. Any responses the public wishes to submit may be emailed to sodell@tcnm.us, prior to October 14, 2025.
